Heather Townshend

Heather Townshend was born in Bristol and lived there during WW2. She studied printmaking at the London College of Printing and over the years exhibited widely in many galleries in both group and solo exhibitions, the most famous being the 1997 Fresh Exhibition in Plaistow, alongside Damian Hirst and many of the artists of the Young British Art Movement. What makes Townshend such an accomplished artist is her experimental approach to her subject and working technique. Her drawings are bold and atmospheric and her paintings display a sense of isolation verging on the abstract; but it is in her approach to printmaking where she excels using a variety of printing techniques to resolve an idea. In short, each print is different even if struck from the same print or block.
